Music Style Analysis

For my composition I would like to make EDM(Electronic Dance Music). This music is all/ almost all electronic but might use acoustic-samples. It has lots of drops and mini drops and has a very strong and clear. The bass is quite loud and normal simple so that the beat is easy to follow and makes you want to move to it. In contrast to the simple bass the drums are normally complicated but with a simple snare or kick all the way through. There are lots of forms of EDM which are normally broken down into more specific groups. e.g. Trap, House, Dubstep, Big Room and Future Bass, although EDM-Pop cross over is really popular and is what most people think of when you say 'Electronic Dance Music'.There are different variations of these as well such as Tropical House. These variations normally have the same structure but with different sounds in the back ground. Tropical House normally has the same type of lead as other House but has steal pan sounds, flute samples and other tropical sounds. Dubstep normally has harsh electric sounds like drill and saw sounds and I personally don't like it. My 3 favorite EDM artists are Martin Garrix, Alan Walker and Marshmellow. Alan Walker has had a few big successes with his songs such as Faded and one that is starting to gain popularity is The Specter. These songs both were originally made as instrumentals and he later added lyrics. Alan Walker has a strong fan base that call them selves 'Walkers'. Martin Garrix has had huge success with his songs. Some of his most famous are Animals, Sacred To Be Lonely and There for You. Marshmellow is most famous for his remixes of other artists songs, but he turns them into his own style. He also creates his own music and hasn't revealed his face, he always wears a huge marshmallow mask on his head.

EDM is normally bouncy and happy but can be dark and sad. It is hard to make vocals fit in EDM so they often have lots of effect on them or include lots of vocal chops. These effects can include pitch big pitch changes, speed changes, lots of reverb or other effects to change the sound. EMD lyrics normally have more meaning than modern pop lyrics. This is mainly because in EDM lyrics almost always have lots of effects on, so more complex but meaningful lyrics can be fitted round the music, unlike pop lyrics which have auto tune and other software to make the singer's voice sound better but not normally to make complex lyrics fit. Making lyrics fit does sometimes mean sacrificing the clarity of the words being sung but that is part of EDM that is embraced by fans.
